Friday-Saturday: Hot Luck Fest at Barracuda and White Horse. If you prefer your club show with a side of upscale bites (who doesn’t?), it’s worth perusing the music roster for the inaugural food and music fest hosted by Mohawk owner James Moody and Aaron Franklin of Franklin Barbecue. The events kick off on Friday when the White Horse offers the chance to honky tonk it up with Rayland Baxter, Jonathan Terrell and Carson McHone while swilling cold brew ice cream floats from Stumptown Coffee Roasters. The same night, Barracuda hosts a show from pop-punk lifers Shonen Knife paired with Japanese eats from chef Yoshi Okai. Tickets range from $12 to $23. Friday: Catfish & the Bottlemen at Stubb’s. Those who caught the Bottlemen’s afternoon set on one of the big stages at the Austin City Limits Music Festival last fall may well come back for another outdoor blast of loud and hard rock ‘n’ roll. An extraordinarily tight ensemble, the Welsh band also puts on a high-energy live show, with riveting frontman Van McCann at the center of the sonic maelstrom. Saturday: Evan Johns memorial tribute at Hole in the Wall. When Austin guitarist Evan Johns died March 11, the city was just gearing up for another South by Southwest stretch, which made it hard for a fitting memorial event to take place quickly. His friends persevered toward that end, though, and the result is a remarkably strong lineup of musicians with ties to Johns’ stellar career. Local groups Churchwood, the Gay Sportscasters and the LeRoi Brothers join the D.C. Weenies, featuring former Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra backed by an ace crew of roots-rockers. Rounding out the bill, which features music on both of the club’s stages, are renowned Dallas one-man band Homer Henderson, Johns’ friend since childhood Ivan Brown, Don Leady & the Tailgators, Pehr Smith, Keith Kinkle & Spare Change, and Dunebuggy. Saturday-Sunday: Rhyme Time Hip-hop Festival at Kick Butt Coffee. This two-day indie rap-a-palooza presents underground heavies from the East and West Coasts alongside a solid support cast of ATX talent. Cali supergroup Haiku D’Etat, featuring Abstract Rude, Myka 9 and Aceyalone, headlines on Saturday and NYC Gang Starr affiliate Afu-Ra plays Sunday. Standout ATX rappers on the support bill include Dat Boy Supa, Stat 1 and Retrograde on Saturday and Mindz of a Different Kind, Tank and Tee Double on Sunday. $18-$50. Houston’s sing-song, stoner rap champion is still going strong 15 years after somebody had the nerve to take the herb up out his “Doobie Ashtray,” (why’d they do him that way?).
